Spring has arrived in Boston. We know this for sure because the Red Sox have returned to Fenway Park. The swan boats are launched. Runners have paced themselves up Heartbreak Hill and completed the Marathon.

At Boston Higashi School we have experienced our own annual rite of spring – our traditional Annual Celebration event and festivities.

Our students made us all very proud to be part of the Boston Higashi School family of believers and achievers.  Together with the Musashino Higashi School, we join hands and hearts as a community of hope bound together with common beliefs and expectations of achievement and balance and for one and all.

We were honored to have Mr. Terada, President, Mr. Suzuki Executive Manager and Mr. Minowa Alumni Parent Association President, from the Mushashino Higashi School make the long journey from Tokyo to share this busy weekend with us. Their generous and genuine applause helps us remember the work of our beloved founder Dr. Kiyo Kitahara. Their loyal support and friendship inspire us and sustain us. 

Despite the distance between Boston and Tokyo, the partnership that we share with the Musashino Higashi School is ever alive and vibrant.  We learn so much every time we have conversations and visits. Boston Higashi teachers aspire to become  experts in Daily Life Therapy like their Musashino colleagues.

I am ever awed and inspired by the leadership that Mr. Terada and his cabinet members demonstrate. The facilities and the development work that you have been able to accomplish in such a short window of time speak to the dedication and determination that is at the heart of the work that we do. Mr. Terada is like the conductor of an orchestra. He gets all instruments to play together while showcasing the individual talents of each school division and department. What beautiful music he creates! The students, staff and parents of Musashino Higashi School have much to be proud of. Working together under strong and steady leadership, your school is a beacon of light and hope for all students, especially those with autism.

Please accept my very best wishes for a wonderful upcoming summer. May the sun shine on each and every member of the Musashino Higashi School . May the gentle winds of learning, health and goodwill lift us all to new heights of knowledge and understanding.  

ボストンに春がやってきました。そして、ボストン レッドソックスもキャンプ地からフェンウェイ球場に戻ってきました。パブリック ガーデンのスワン ボートも再開しました。ボストン マラソンのランナーたちは苦しい坂を越えて走り抜きました。

ボストン東スクールでは、毎年恒例の春の行事、第22回発表会を盛会裡に終了しました。私は、生徒たちの演技を見て、信念を持ち達成し続けるボストン東スクール ファミリーの一員であることに誇りを感じました。私たちは、共通の信念と達成への期待、そしてバランスを保ちつつ、同じ希望に向かう共同体として、武蔵野東学園の皆さんとともに手を取り合い、心を寄せ合い、歩んでおります。

発表会に際し、武蔵野東学園より寺田理事長 、鈴木事務長、ならびに後援会OB会の三野輪副会長が、お忙しい週末のお時間を割いてはるばるボストンまでお越しくださいました。大変光栄に存じます。そして、お三方より惜しみないお褒めの言葉をいただき、私たちの最愛の創立者である故 北原キヨ先生の偉業をあらためて思い出しました。私どもは、武蔵野東学園の方々の変わらぬご支援と交流によって、励まされ、元気づけられています。

東京とボストンは距離こそ離れていますが、武蔵野東学園とのパートナーシップはいつも活気に満ちあふれています。そのお陰でいつも多くのことを学ばせていただいております。ボストン東の教職員は、武蔵野東の教職員の皆さんに倣ってよりよい生活療法の専門家になりたいと強く望んでいます。

寺田理事長と所属長の先生方が示される統率力を拝見し、私は畏敬の念を抱くと同時に活力をいただいております。短い期間内に施設設備を整え学園を大きく発展させたその事実は、私たちが行うべきことの真髄である「献身」と「決断力」を物語っています。寺田理事長は、オーケストラの指揮者のような方です。個人の能力を各分野や各部署で発揮させながら、全体で一つの曲を奏でさせています。何と素敵な音楽が創られていることでしょう！武蔵野東学園の児童生徒、教職員、そして保護者の皆さんは、そのことを大変誇りに思っていらっしゃるはずです。貴校が強くしっかりとした統率力の下で力を合わせて進んで行くことによって、全校生徒、特に自閉症の生徒たちにとっての希望の光となっているのです。

どうぞすばらしい夏をお過ごしください。武蔵野東学園の皆様一人一人の上に太陽が燦々と降り注ぎますように。そして、学び、健康、善意の優しい風が、我々を「知識と理解の丘」の新たな高みへと導いてくれますように。
